Share Internet without a Router

I had an internet connection on my laptop (via usb adapter) and wanted to share it to my smart phones and tablets. The cost for a router was too much for me, so this inspired me to search for an alternative and guess what below is the easiest way to share internet. Yippeeee!!!!!

Basic Idea

Ok here we go, all we need to do is to create an adhoc connection and enable internet sharing. What this does is that you actually create a WIFI access point/hot spot and your internet connection will be shared through this access point/hot spot.

Steps to configure

  1. Power-up your laptop and connect to the internet (Host Machine)
  2. Open the Start Menu and type “wireless” into the Search box and then select “Manage wireless networks”
  3. Then Click the “Add” button to add a wireless network.
  4. Click on “Create an ad hoc network”
  5. Click Next.
  6. Now give your adhoc connection a name and password. “Tick” Save this network if you plan to use it repeatedly so you don’t have to set it up each time.
  7. Wait while the network is created…
  8. In order to check if the adhoc connection was created successfully, click the wireless icon on the Taskbar and you can see that the new adhoc connection is waiting for users to connect.
  9. Congrats you are halfway through!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. On the Client computer/smart phone/tablet, click on the wireless icon to see available networks and connect to the ad hoc network by entering the correct password.
  11. Then on the Host machine you will see that the other computer is connected to your ad hoc network.
  12. Congrats…. Now both the devices are on the network.
  13. To share your Internet connection with the newly connected devices, right-click on the Host’s internet adapter (meaning the connection that brings internet to your host machine). Go to Properties, click the Sharing tab, and select Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection.
  14. Now it’s better to disconnect the internet and re-connect, so that the settings can be refreshed.
  15. And you can share internet on all your WIFI devices.
